Determine Door Opening Size
(DIMENSION X)
Determine dimension X by measuring the width of the door, including the width of the brickmould if applicable. (i.e. If you have a 3-0' door with 2" brickmould, your X dimension is 40".)
Determine Pilaster Size to be Used
(DIMENSION Y)
Pilasters are placed along each side of the door which the pediment or combo will rest on. Pilaster size is usually determined by considering the size of your door. Doors in the 36" to 40" range usually use a 7" or 8" pilaster. Large doors, double doors & doors with sidelights use a 9" or 11" pilaster. Utilize your own style and taste!
Determine Crosshead Width (or Width of Pediment/Combo)
(DIMENSION A)
Dimension A is the total length of the door and pilasters. For example, if you have a 36" door with 2" brickmould and you choose 7" pilasters, then your A dimension would be 54". This particular entry would require a crosshead or pediment with at least a 54" breastboard measurement. (Some overhang is common and will look fine.)
