MATERIAL & MANUFACTURING PROCESS
Western Red Cedar, Clear Heart Redwood, pine, poplar, & mahogany are just
a few of the popular wood species utilized for our Architectural Wood Columns.
If you desire another wood species, please inform us, and it will be our pleasure to
accomodate. To ensure that our wood columns are of the highest quality, we
process each order with individualized care and attention. First, the column's
height and diameter are entered into our computer system which has been
programmed to calculate the exact proportions necessary to produce your
beautiful exterior wood columns and architectural interior wood columns.
COLUMN SHAFT
Fluted, Tapered column shaft. The Greek Erechtheum with Ornate Necking
wood column shaft is architecturally correct according to Vignola's classical
column specifications. Select, also, from our distinct column design shapes
to match your interior or exterior architectural specifications. The length and
placement of the fluting can be altered to achieve many column design styles.
Fluting may be either at the top or bottom one-third, one-half, or two-thirds
of the column shaft. We use Western Red Cedar, Clear Heart Redwood, pine,
poplar, mahogany, teak or any other wood species desired. Wood materials
are available in both solid board and finger-joint form. Each column is made
to your exact specifications. We recommend using either finger-joint redwood
or cedar for interior columns that will be stained or left natural with a clear
protective finish to display the grain of the wood.
CAPITAL, BASE MOLDING & PLINTH
CAPITAL: Design 149 is characterized by a Greek Erechtheum capital
with composite ornate necking. Standard materials are polyurethane for
the smaller column sizes and fiberglass for the larger column sizes. Load-bearing
qualities. Wood capitals are available for all sizes at an upcharge. We are
able to replicate for historic restoration if you have as much as a quarter
of the existing capital including corner and any side design. Please contact a
Chadsworth Sales Consultant for additional capital materials and information.
BASE MOLDING: Design 149 has an Ionic (Attic) Base. Base materials
follow the same parameters as the capitals. PLINTH: We offer a variety of
Plinth materials, specific to your column sizes and interior or exterior applications.
